Hey Readers, in this blog we're going to cover about what is a cv/resume, how to build a perfect resume as a fresher, and where to apply for Internships after building a resume.
WHAT IS A RESUME/CV ?
Resume is 1–2-page document which shows you and your skills and achievements. You can use your resume to market yourself. A person needs a good resume to get an interview call.
WHAT DETAILS SHOULD A RESUME CONTAIN ?
A resume should contain a summary of your skills, experience, academic qualification, and other important details which should help your interviewer to know about your suitability for the given position. If you write anything in your resume, see that is that information helps you to get interview call? Write only the relevant information in your resume, don’t write extra.
USEFUL POINTS FOR A RESUME
- The length of your resume should be 1-2 pages (because when you start your career it is hard to imagine a long CV) so be careful while choosing font and size.
- Always write your most recent qualification, experience, internships first and write previous information after that means follow reverse chronological order.
- Don’t write all things which you have done till date, only write the information related to job objective and profile.
- Always write the date after your qualification and also mention the timeline and duration after your internship and projects.
- Achievements: Was Kabaddi team captain in school, participated and won drama competition in 7 class – really? Do not make your CV unnecessarily only write necessary achievements.
- Restrict yourself from delivering unverifiable information such as “I am sincere, hardworking, team player” etc. let your achievements express you.
- Always avoid jargon (acronyms means technical words related to specific field) in CV because everyone is not familiar with these words.
- Also avoids “lakhs, crores” because internationally people understand only millions and billions.
- Objective
- Educational Background and Qualification
- Work Experience (you can include internships and assignments)
- Soft skills and other relevant expertise.
COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID WHILE CREATING RESUME
Following are some common mistakes which we make while building our resumes. Have a look and make corrections in your resume if any.
Note: These mistakes have been identified as what people expect from a professional resume in industry. There may be cases where you have to follow the procedure and guidelines issued by your recruiter.
1. Name of resume file: When you name your resume file have you named it as resume.doc, cv.doc, or something similar? This is not only very unprofessional but it is very difficult for your recruiter to identify your resume after downloading it because think when all applicant named their file as your file then what will happen.
So, name your resume file as your full name with your college name. for example: if you are Aayush from IIT Madras, you can name your resume as Aayush-IIT Madras. And when it is possible to send your resume in pdf format then send it in pdf format.
2. Length of your resume: While there is no information is given to you about the page limit of your resume (like your recruiter said that you have to provide your resume in 1 page) then do not make your resume more than 2 pages. Remember, if Steve Jobs can express himself in 1 page, so you can.
3. 2 column resume: At this time, few students make their resume in 2 column structure, please don’t do this. Because 2 column structure is difficult to read for a reader as it becomes difficult to decide which column should focus on. So, write your resume in 1 column structure as given in the sample resume.
4. You shouldn't list things in reverse chronological order: Do not show your most recent things (academic qualification, work experience, and internship/project) at last. Write it in reverse chronological order. Write most recent things first and previous things after it.
5. Mentioned your year’s/semester’s GPA/%. Marks in academic section: Do not mention every year or semester percentage or GPA. It is enough to write your aggregate CGPA. For example, if you have completed 6 six semesters of your b.com graduation, so do not write every semester GPA, write aggregate CGPA at the end of 6th semester.
